1:21 pm - Animal rescue in need of help ASAP

ilovemygoats
Please help our cause. I recently lost my job and the rescue needs some financial help to continue feeding and caring for the animals. We need bales of hay for the goats and bags of feed. Lots of food for the feral cats. Two geriatric indoor kitties need expensive prescription formula food for renal failure. If you can donate, even if it is just a dollar, please click the banner. THANK YOU

Some time has passed since I told you that I got that new rabbit from the shelter. I just wanted to update that an other introducing found a successful end. Joker and Fay are sharing a cage since the middle of February.. and as you can see they´ve become very good friends.

8:59 pm - New family member...

meerkat77

Unfortunatelly this story starts with sad news because one week ago I had to have my rabbit Angus (the grey one in my last entry) put to sleep. I got him from a pet shelter in March 2006. So he only had 9 months with us. Unfortunatelly I pretty soon had to believe that he already was quite old and in summer he started to have never ending problems with his jaw bone. At a certain point it was clear that we couldn´t help him anymore and that one day he wouldn´t be able to eat anymore. Since he was still doing o.k. and for the sake of the other rabbit we let him live on as long as possible. After all I think he had some good months at our place and sometimes that´s all you can give to a shelter pet.

Since I didn´t want my female rabbit being alone for too long we picked up that beautyful little snow flake you can see below the cut from the local pet shelter on Wednesday. He´s called Joker and I hope that he´ll become an equally good friend for my rabbit - girl Fay as Angus was!

4:55 pm - Hi

meerkat77

I´m new here... joined the community only a few days ago.. but didn´t find time to say hello, yet!

Well, my name is Sabine , 29 years old and I´m from Germany. My own pets are 4 gerbils and 2 rabbits. I got two of the gerbils and one rabbit from shelters. The other rabbit was "second hand", too.. but I got her directly from a person who couldn´t keep her anymore.
So far all I can say is that I made good experiences with shelter pets ( a friend of mine keeps a group of 4 ferrets that all come from shelters and are the most wonderful pets, too. So it´s not only my own animals I can mention.) and taking shelter pets will always be my priority in future.

tino_bambino
My sweet Lucy is now 11 years old! I can't believe how old she is. Her birthday was yesterday. We adpoted her from the Upper Credit Humane Society when she was young. She is 11 years old but still acting puppyish and has always been healthy. I'm glad =) *crosses fingers for more good health* Here she is:

Hi All,

I have a male , 1 year old , fully de-sexed, vaccinated, heart-wormed and very healthy ferret looking for a new home in the Sydney, Australia area.

He is very sociable, great with other animals, does not bite, and housetrained. In short, he is the perfect pet and a big sook.

I am looking to place him with a home who will have the time for him as, although he is very independent, he loves to be by your side

Please email me (bio-page) if you are keen on him.

Cheers
George

either_or
hello! i have two stories and a picture

1. my aunt was @ a pet store, buying some supplies for four orphaned baby squirrels she rescued from a cat (they are SO CUTE!). anyway, she saw a dog (man, i wish i could remember what kind) in one of those glass boxes they keep them in. and he was scared and huddled in the corner. she asked about him and they said he had been there for MONTHS and he had been out of the box for cleaning and such, but had never walked around. she tried to get a friend of hers whose dog recently died to buy the poor thing (who had been discounted from 400 to 300 dollars), but he wasn't ready for a new dog. my aunt couldn't afford him and already has a lot of animals on her hands. so she called a dog rescue (for his specific breed, which i don't remember) and a lady from the rescue came, talked them down to $250, and took him with her to the shelter. whew! (this is a rescue shelter, and they do not euthanize, but instead go around getting animals in risk of euthanization from county shelters and pounds)

2. my boyfriend and i recently adopted a bunny. she is huge and aloof and i love her already. we got her at an adoption fair in santa cruz, ca. we call her bunbun, but are still looking for a "real" name.

here she is!Collapse )

First post!
I have never gotten an animal directly from a shelter, but I have adopted animals from familes who didnt want them. I also volunteered in an animal shelter, that was such an awesome experience. My dog came from a family who couldn't keep the puppies her dog just had, and he wasn't bought by anyone he was the last on left. I got 2 mice from a friend who no longer had the time to take care of them, those 2 mice (male and female) went on to have a little of babies(3) and I kept them until they all died(<3) I now have my 2 bunnies(and still my gorgeous dog of course) which i got from a guy who would've ended up giving them to a pet store to sell.
